Jaljala Festival to be organized in Rolpa

With the objective of promoting tourism and enriching the lives of people living in the district, a four-day long Jaljala Festival is being organized in Thabang Village Development Committee of Rolpa district from Jestha 6 to 9, 2065 BS. This was informed in a press conference organized in Kathmandu on April 30.

The major highlight of the festival is Jaljala Hill, 3193m, which is rich in bio-diversity and offers magnificent view of different mountains peaks in the mid western development region. 'Since the ancient time, Jaljala is revered as a place of religious importance. There are three temples: Barah, Baju and Jhankri in Jaljala Area which are frequented by visitors from different parts of the country and even India,' reads a press released issued by the organizers.

'Though Jaljala lies in a remote place, the pristine mountain environment encourages visitors to visit this place. The area is home to diverse species of flora and fauna and different medicinal herbs,' says Prabesh Magar, one of the organizers.

The Jaljala area has been identified by the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) to replicate its Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) model of conservation. 'A team of NTNC is visiting the area to conduct feasibility study of the area very soon,' Magar informed.

The festival will showcase exhibition of local handicraft products, medicinal herbs, agricultural products and others. Likewise, cultural activities of indigenous Magar people, ethnic Bhomya Dance of Thabang village and dohori songs will also be showcased during the festival.

The Jaljala area was used as a shelter by Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists) while waging People's War for more than one decade.

Organised by Integrated Remoted Development Nepal, Rolpa, the event is being promoted by Nepal Tourism Board.
